Residents Fight for Peace and Green Spaces in Malad

Residents of a Malad society are grappling with noise pollution caused by a religious organization and illegal tree cutting by a Jain group. Despite repeated complaints, the BMC and police have failed to take effective action, leading to growing frustration and calls for environmental justice. The peaceful neighborhood of Vaidya Building in Malad (W) has been disrupted by persistent noise pollution emanating from the Sanskar Dham Bhavan, a religious organization.

Residents have endured loud music and religious preachings from early morning until late at night for over two years, with little relief from the local authorities. The Malad police have been accused of inaction despite numerous complaints, and residents claim that the organization’s office bearers have even threatened them to tolerate the noise. The impact of the noise pollution has been significant, affecting the daily lives of residents, particularly children and elderly individuals. The constant noise has made it difficult for children to concentrate on their studies, while senior citizens have been disturbed by the disruption to their peaceful routines. The loud music has also prevented residents from getting adequate sleep at night.

In addition to the noise pollution, residents have also faced the illegal cutting of a tree by the Sakal Digambar Jain Samaj Mandal, a neighboring organization. Despite lodging a complaint with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the residents have been unable to secure justice. The BMC has failed to take any action against the perpetrators, despite the clear evidence of trespassing and illegal tree cutting. The incident has highlighted the growing concern over environmental degradation and the disregard for local communities.

The residents of Vaidya Building have called for stricter enforcement of environmental regulations and accountability from the authorities. They have also demanded compensation for the damage caused to their property and the loss of the valuable tree. The ongoing battle of Malad residents against noise pollution and illegal tree cutting serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by communities in urban areas. As the city continues to grow and develop, it is essential that the authorities prioritize the well-being of residents and protect the environment.
