In anticipation of the large influx of devotees paying homage to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas, December 6, 2024, the railway authorities have issued a comprehensive advisory for Dadar station. Special measures, including route diversions and access restrictions, are being implemented to ensure smooth movement and public safety at this key transit hub.
The measures, effective from midnight on December 5 to midnight on December 6, aim to manage the expected surge of devotees visiting Chaitya Bhoomi in Dadar. Currently, Dadar station handles 75 to 80 lakh passengers daily, a figure projected to reach 90 to 95 lakh on this occasion. Key pedestrian routes, such as the Central Large Bridge connecting Central and Western Railway platforms, will be restricted for general commuter use. However, it will remain accessible for passengers switching between platforms. Similarly, the Skywalk Bridge will remain operational for those entering or exiting Dadar station from east or west city limits.
Central Railway Station will allow platform changes and city access, ensuring minimal inconvenience to travellers. However, entrances to Dadar Western Railway Station Platform No. 1, except Gate Nos. 2 and 3 near the Skywalk, will be closed. Railway platforms 2/3 and 4/5 can use the southern skywalk bridge to access city limits or transition to Central Railway platforms. Entry to this bridge will be facilitated through stairs and lifts on Platform No. 1. Mahaparinirvan Diwas is a significant day, marking the 67th death anniversary of Dr Ambedkar. These rail measures ensure a dignified and organised tribute for millions of followers while maintaining safety and operational efficiency. The railways’ proactive approach underscores their commitment to passenger convenience during large-scale commemorations.
