Nagpur Station Faces 90-Day Platform Closure for Upgrade

The Central Railway’s Nagpur Division has announced a significant platform closure at Ajni Station as part of a major station redevelopment project. Platforms No. 2 and 3 will remain closed for 90 days, from 12th September 2024 to 10th December 2024, to facilitate extensive construction activities. The work will include the erection of foundations, columns for a new concourse, and foot over bridges (FOBs).

This planned closure is an integral part of the railway’s broader efforts to modernise Ajni Station and enhance passenger amenities. As the station undergoes substantial upgrades, the closure of these platforms will allow for uninterrupted construction work, ensuring that the new facilities are built to the highest standards. The redevelopment aims to provide a more seamless travel experience for passengers, with improved infrastructure, connectivity, and safety measures. During this period, several trains travelling in the Mumbai direction will not halt at Ajni Station.

Passengers are advised to board or alight from these trains at Nagpur Station instead. The affected trains include 12106 Gondia – CSMT Vidarbha Express (Daily), 12140 Nagpur – CSMT Sewagram Express (Daily), 18030 Shalimar – LTT Express (Daily). Passengers are requested to take note of these changes and plan their journeys accordingly. The temporary closure of these platforms is part of the broader infrastructure upgrade aimed at enhancing the station’s overall capacity and services. The Central Railway has assured that these efforts will significantly improve passenger amenities and connectivity in the long term.

The decision to close platforms No. 2 and 3 at Ajni Station has been made with a view to prioritise passenger safety and minimise disruptions during construction. While this may cause inconvenience in the short term, the Nagpur Division is committed to completing the upgrade on schedule to minimise passenger disruption. The project reflects the Central Railway’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality and safety of railway services. It aligns with the Indian Railways’ mission to upgrade stations across the country and bring them in line with global standards.

As the Indian Railways undertakes this crucial redevelopment, passengers are encouraged to stay informed about the latest updates and changes to train schedules. Passengers are advised to bear with these temporary changes as the railway authorities work towards creating a modern, efficient, and passenger-friendly station. The long-term benefits of this redevelopment are expected to offer an enhanced travel experience with better amenities and infrastructure.
