Mumbai Port’s New Ventures Promise 1.45 Lakh Jobs

Mumbai Port unveiled a series of transformative projects and signed investment agreements amounting to Rs 4,000 crore, marking a significant push towards sustainability and green fuel advancements. These initiatives are poised to generate approximately 1.45 lakh person-days of employment, reinforcing the port’s commitment to enhancing both environmental and economic outcomes.

Among the notable agreements, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was established between Mumbai Port Authority, Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation (MPSF), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). This MoU aims to foster the development of a green fuel ecosystem, aligning with broader sustainability goals. Additionally, another MoU was signed between Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and MPSF. DNV, a Norway-based entity renowned for its expertise in quality management, risk assessment, and sustainability, will collaborate on emission management, decarbonisation, digitisation, and safety within port and shipping operations. The port authority also facilitated the transfer of land for various leasing agreements. Two plots were allocated to Mahanagar Gas Nigam Ltd for gas infrastructure, while Aegis Logistics secured two plots at Pir Pau for liquid bulk storage. These leases are expected to enhance operational efficiency and contribute to the port’s strategic growth.

The total investment of Rs 4,000 crore is anticipated to bring substantial benefits to Mumbai, with significant improvements in port infrastructure and operational capabilities. The projects are designed not only to bolster the port’s green credentials but also to stimulate local employment and economic activity.

This announcement underscores Mumbai Port’s role as a pivotal player in advancing India’s green and sustainable infrastructure, reflecting a broader commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship. As these projects unfold, they are expected to position Mumbai Port as a leading example of modern, sustainable port operations in the region.
