Mumbai Harbour and Trans-Harbour Trains Delays Due to Pantograph Entanglement

Mumbai: Train services on the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines were significantly disrupted early Tuesday morning due to a pantograph entanglement incident at Nerul. According to Central Railway (CR) officials, the disruption began around 4:55 am, resulting in the suspension of both UP and Down services on the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines. The Harbour line services were restored by 6:55 am, and trains on the Trans-Harbour line between Thane and Nerul resumed operations around the same time.

However, services between Nerul and Panvel on the Trans-Harbour line remained suspended, impacting the Thane-Panvel local trains. This led to the partial cancellation of services between Nerul and Panvel, causing considerable inconvenience for daily commuters. In a separate incident affecting the Western Railway network, suburban train services experienced disruptions due to a point failure between Kandivali and Malad around 12:50 pm. This issue caused delays on both UP and Down fast lines, compounding the problems faced by passengers on the second consecutive day. Western Railway officials reported that the point failure was rectified by 1:15 pm. However, passengers experienced continued delays, with trains running behind schedule by up to 15 minutes throughout the afternoon. Commuters expressed their frustration over the recurring disruptions, with one stating, “For the last few days, we are regularly facing train delays.”

Sources indicate that speed restrictions have been imposed at various locations due to ongoing work on the sixth line between Goregaon and Kandivali, which has further contributed to the delays and commuter dissatisfaction. The repeated disruptions highlight ongoing challenges in maintaining efficient rail services amidst infrastructure improvements and technical issues. Commuters are advised to check the latest updates and plan their travel accordingly to mitigate the impact of these disruptions.
