Metro 9 and 7A Car Shed Development Attracts Three Competing Firms

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has received competitive bids from three firms for the development of a crucial depot near Bhayander to support Metro 9 (Dahisar-Mira Bhayander) and Metro 7A projects. Spanning across 59.65 hectares in Dongri, the depot will accommodate a minimum of 40 stabling lines, facilitating the parking and maintenance of trains during off-service hours.

The bidding firms—KPC Projects Ltd, NCC Ltd, and Ritwik Projects Pvt Ltd—have submitted their proposals, which are currently undergoing technical scrutiny. The tender will be awarded to the lowest bidder following the evaluation process. Initially planned across Morva, Raimurdhe, and Murdhe villages, the proposed site faced challenges due to partial residential and no-development zones, affecting approximately 547 families. However, since the land is government-owned, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will not incur any acquisition costs. In the interim period, the Charkop depot, currently servicing Metro 2A and 7 lines, will support Metro 9 operations until the new facility in Dongri becomes operational. The seamless integration between Metro 7 and Metro 9 ensures uninterrupted service despite the ongoing development of the new depot. The development of this depot marks a significant milestone in Mumbai’s metro expansion plans, aiming to enhance connectivity and meet the growing demand for public transportation in the region. As the evaluation progresses, stakeholders anticipate the selection of a suitable contractor to commence construction, reinforcing the city’s commitment to infrastructure development amidst urban challenges.
