The Maharashtra state government headquarters, Mantralaya, has launched a massive clean-up drive. The initiative, spearheaded by the General Administration Department (GAD), aims to discard obsolete files, documents, and other materials that have accumulated over time. The timing of the drive is strategic, as the code of conduct for the assembly elections is expected to come into force in the first week of October.
This period provides a window of opportunity for the state headquarters to streamline its operations and prepare for the transition to a new government. By clearing out unnecessary clutter and organizing the premises, Mantralaya aims to create a conducive environment for the incoming administration. Both the departments located at Mantralaya and the New Administrative Building have been instructed to participate in the clean-up drive.
A classification system has been implemented to categorize files into four levels: A, B, C, and D. Files classified as C and D, deemed obsolete, will be disposed of. Conversely, files classified as A and B will be forwarded for digitization. After digitization, the files and documents will be transferred to the Department of Archives for preservation. In addition to clearing out files and documents, the departments will also focus on cleaning up the passages outside their sections. Old furniture, cupboards filled with paperwork, and outdated computer equipment will be disposed of as scrap. To streamline operations and reduce paper consumption, the departments will transition to an e-office system based on a paperless office. This shift will help to eliminate the need for physical files and documents, further contributing to a cleaner and more efficient workplace.
Following the disposal of discarded materials, the departments will submit a report to the GAD, detailing the items sold as scrap and the amounts received. A comprehensive report summarizing the clean-up drive, including 10 key points, will also be submitted to the GAD. The Mantralaya clean-up drive is a significant step towards improving the efficiency and organization of the state government headquarters. By eliminating unnecessary clutter and embracing digital technologies, the government aims to create a more modern and effective working environment.
