Intercity Taxi Fare Hike Mumbai-Nashik and Mumbai-Shirdi Routes Affected

Mumbai’s intercity taxi landscape is poised for a transformation as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) greenlights a fare revision for shared black-and-yellow non-AC taxis and blue-and-silver AC taxis operating on key routes connecting Mumbai with Nashik, Shirdi, and Pune.

The revised fare structure, endorsed based on recommendations from the B C Khatua panel, signifies adjustments in response to evolving market dynamics and operational costs. Effective from an undisclosed date next month, the revised fare charts will be prominently displayed at intercity taxi stands across Mumbai, ensuring transparency and facilitating informed decision-making for commuters. Notably, the fare revisions vary across routes and taxi categories, reflecting nuanced considerations of distance, service level, and passenger demand.

On the Mumbai-Nashik and Mumbai-Shirdi routes, AC taxi fares will witness an increment of ₹100 and ₹200 respectively, with revised fares set at ₹575 and ₹825. Similarly, non-AC taxi fares on the Mumbai-Pune route will increase by ₹50 to ₹500, while AC taxi fares will rise by ₹50 to ₹575. This adjustment aligns with the MMRTA’s commitment to maintaining equitable pricing structures and ensuring sustainable service provision.

The rationale behind the fare adjustments lies in addressing long-standing discrepancies and aligning taxi fares with prevailing market conditions and operational realities. Despite a fare revision on the Mumbai-Pune route less than three years ago, fares on the Mumbai-Nashik and Mumbai-Shirdi routes have remained unchanged since September 2013, necessitating recalibration to reflect evolving dynamics. The decision to revise intercity taxi fares underscores the MMRTA’s proactive approach to enhancing public transportation services and promoting commuter welfare. By recalibrating fare structures in accordance with regulatory guidelines and stakeholder consultations, the MMRTA seeks to strike a delicate balance between affordability for passengers and sustainability for taxi operators. As Mumbai’s intercity taxi sector navigates through these fare adjustments, stakeholders must collaborate to ensure seamless implementation and mitigate any potential disruptions to commuter mobility. By fostering a conducive regulatory environment and promoting dialogue among industry stakeholders, the MMRTA aims to enhance the overall efficiency and accessibility of intercity transportation services in the region.
