PSA BDP India has recently launched a pioneering 150 km transport corridor at Nhava Sheva that produces zero emissions.

This innovative initiative utilises electric trucks for the movement of import and export containers and, is a significant step towards mitigating carbon emissions in India’s primary maritime gateway – the Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai. The inauguration ceremony was held in the esteemed presence of Unmesh Wagh, Chairman of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, highlighting the strategic importance of this endeavor. Spearheaded by PSA BDP, in collaboration with industry stakeholders like Ameya Logistics and customer facilities, this corridor is a perfect example of combining technological innovation with environmental stewardship. The cornerstone of this green corridor lies in the deployment of electric trucks procured from China’s BYD Co., Ltd. These cutting-edge vehicles boast the capability to transport fully loaded containers up to 200 kilometres on a single charge, thus facilitating substantial reductions in carbon emissions. PSA BDP estimates an annual carbon emissions reduction exceeding 300 tons compared to conventional diesel-powered counterparts, underscoring the tangible environmental benefits of this initiative.

Integral to the operationalisation of the zero-emission transport corridor is the integration of renewable energy sources. The electric trucks will be powered by the 6.25 MW Open Access Solar Plant established by Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals (BMCT), a subsidiary facility of PSA International Pte Ltd situated at J N Port. This symbiotic relationship between renewable energy generation and sustainable transportation encapsulates a holistic approach towards environmental conservation and operational efficiency. PSA BDP asserts that this innovative transportation solution is tailored to the unique demands of the Indian market, offering an integrated and eco-friendly amalgamation of services. Notably, this initiative resonates with the broader industry trend towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions along the supply chain, as corporations worldwide prioritise sustainability in their operational strategies. PSA BDP underscores the significance of this investment as a testament to its leadership in delivering pioneering and sustainable port and cargo solutions. As the global shipping and transportation sector undergoes a paradigm shift towards greener practices, initiatives such as the zero-emission transport corridor at Nhava Sheva exemplify a proactive stance towards environmental stewardship and operational excellence.
