In a move to improve operational efficiency and passenger convenience, the Central Railways Mumbai Division has revised platform numbers at Dadar station, one of the city’s busiest transit hubs. Effective November 27, the current Platform 10 has been renumbered as Platform 9A, while the existing Platform 10A will now be identified as Platform 10.

This change is aimed at better managing the station’s dual role as an interchange for suburban and long-distance trains. According to Central Railway officials, the updated numbering will segregate services more effectively. Under the revised system, Platform 9A will exclusively handle suburban train operations, while Platform 10 will cater to Mail and Express trains. “This strategic adjustment is expected to reduce passenger confusion and streamline train operations, particularly during peak hours,” said an official from the Mumbai Division. With a daily footfall of nearly 5 lakh commuters and over 800 trains operating daily, including suburban and long-distance services, the change is seen as critical to ensuring smoother functioning at the station.

The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Mumbai Division announced the update via the social media platform X, underscoring the railway’s commitment to enhancing passenger convenience. This renumbering follows last year’s comprehensive overhaul of Dadar station’s platform numbers, which was implemented to improve network management at the highly congested interchange. Dadar station is a pivotal transit point in Mumbai, serving as a key link between the suburban railway network and long-distance routes. The renumbering initiative reflects Central Railway’s efforts to modernise infrastructure and reduce bottlenecks, ensuring better clarity for commuters navigating this essential transit hub.

Commuters have been advised to check updated train schedules and signage to avoid inconvenience. As one of Mumbai’s most critical railway stations, this change is expected to enhance the overall travel experience for its users.
